What a difference a day makes!

We have always said that no two days are ever the same in Nigeria, but the changes over the past few days have been an eye opener, to say the least. Although the condemnations were expected, the whole saga now shows what a small world we live in. Arrests made in Bauchi are reported in Washington before the accused have even appeared in court.

Here is a selection of some of the recent headlines about the signing of the anti-gay bill and also the surprising swiftness in arrests being made across the country.

To start with, take a look at this article from Business Insider that understands the true nature of what is going on in Nigeria. One of the biggest issues is that this is a pretty popular law with over 90% support in a recent poll before the bill was passed.

This is a show that’s bound to run and run. It’s probably fair to say that Nigerians against the bill can only speak in whispers in their community, church halls, associations, dinner tables and social clubs for fear of being rounded up as gay sympathisers.

Did any member of the house vote against this bill?
