British born Nigerian actor, David Oyelowo, who played the lead role in Selma, a movie about Martin Luther King Jr was not nominated at all for the 2015 Oscar Academy Awards.
Oyelowo who played the role of Martin Luther King Jr in Selma has been widely commended by actors and directors in Hollywood for how he interpreted the character of the late black American activist.
Ava DuVernay, the director of Selma, was also missing on the nomination list, a huge surprise to many filmmakers and Oscar observers.
If DuVernay had been nominated, she would have been the first African American woman to be nominated for an Oscar Awards.
However, Selma was nominated for Best Pictures and Best Original Song. A nomination which is considered by many as mere consolation.
