Ryan Giggs didn't do his ambitions of coaching Manchester United a world of good, after Sunderland secured a shock 1-0 victory away at Old Trafford.

With clamours for the Welsh winger to be given the coaching job at United on a permanent basis, the talks would cool now with questions over his experience level.

Sebastian Larsson gave Sunderland a shock lead in the 30th minute, sweeping in a Connor Wickham's cross to give his team the lead.

On the back of an impressive run of good results,Sunderland held on nicely to secure yet another big win. The Black Cats played a 2-2 draw against Manchester City, stopped Chelsea's unbeaten home record with a 2-1 win last week and followed it up with the victory at United.

It is a win that has helped Gus Poyet's team in so many ways, giving them big leap in their bid to beat the drop.

Meanwhile,Manchester City secured a hard fought 3-2 victory away at Everton to move top of the English Premier League table on goals difference.

City had to do it the hard way coming from behind to secure all three points at Goodison park.

A brace from Edin Dzeko and an earlier equaliser from Sergio Aguero cancelled out Ross Barkley's opener.

Romelu Lukaku's 65th minute goal gave City a scare, but they defended bravely to leave Everton with all the points in the bag.

With two more games apiece for City and Liverpool,Manuel Pellegrini's team now top the table with a superior goals difference.

And they are now the clear favourites to now win the Premier League title.
