Sports 'Ronaldo has overtaken Messi as the best player in the world' - Rooney

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney believes that his former teammate Cristaino Ronaldo, is currently better than his rival Lionel Messi.

Both Ronaldo and Messi have constantly drawn up debates over who is better between the pair.

And with the race for the Ballon d'or awards coming up, it is yet an avenue for divided opinions.

But Rooney thinks that Ronaldo has: "certainly overtaken Lionel Messi now as the best player in the world", tipping him to retain the Ballon d'or trophy when the announcement is made in January 2014.

Speaking to MUTV whether Ronaldo will be named the best player again, Rooney said: "I think so".

"He's had an incredible two-or-three years and I think he has certainly overtaken Lionel Messi now as the best player in the world.

"I'm sure it'll be difficult to give it to anyone else."
