During the presidential media chat on Monday evening, when asked about the removal of the the Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, President Goodluck Jonathan insisted that Sanusi was suspended not removed as alleged by the Nigerian media.
"Sanusi is still the CBN Governor, he might come back tomorrow", President Jonathan said.
On the allegations of illegality trailing the Sanusi's suspension, President Jonathan said, "The President of Nigeria has absolute powers to suspend the CBN governor. The issue of suspension and removal are different.
Speaking further on the timing of Sanusi's suspension, the President said it had nothing to do with whistle-blowing,"You have to be careful on financial matters. No President can just wake up and take a decision where the CBN is involved".
"You must follow due process", the President insisted. "There is no appropriate time to suspend anybody".
The President vowed that Sanusi's claims of missing funds will be well investigated,"Sanusi said its $49billion, then $1 2billion and now $20billion, I don’t know which to believe"
"Even if it is 1dollar that has disappeared we must find it but we must follow due process", President Jonathan continued.
The President also added that if Nigerians had supported the total removal of subsidy, all the stories of missing money in the NNPC wouldn't have come up.
