Ostracized ex German captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, is back training with Manchester United's first team.

The 32-year-old midfielder had trained alone or with the club's under-23s since Jose Mourinho became United boss months ago.

He played last for United in March, when Louis van Gaal was still manager.

In August, he said he had no personal problems with Mourinho, after he was shunted out of the first team.

However, several reasons could be attributed to Bastian's return.

  • Mourinho has decided he needed him in his campaign.
  • He could be a substitute for Herrera, who got red carded in United's last match against Burnley. Apart from this, United seem to have few options in the pivot position, with Herrera and tired-legs Carrick the only good option in the area.
  • Mourinho could want him to see some action in a bid to showcase him to potential suitors, as the January window approaches.
  • His experience could be valuable to the team, in addition to his presence in the dressing room.
