You know that recent pop-up you keep getting on your Skype for Desktop? Yeah, well, it could spell bad news for you if you are using third party apps and accessories on Skype.

Microsoft will be scrapping Skype’s current programming language (which is quite old) in December, and introducing something a little more mobile-friendly. Yup, the next Skype version will be all about improved call quality and also about making instant messaging a little faster.

As with all good things, some people have to suffer to make it possible. With this upgrade, some accessories and apps that have been integrated or designed based on the nine year old API (yeah, it is that old – since 2004) will stop working totally, or – at best – lose some functionality.

Let us bow our heads.
