The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, on Friday in Yola said the essence of remodelling some of the country’s airports was to re-position the aviation sector.
Oduah stated this when she visited the International Airports at Yola, Sokoto and Ilorin.
She said the airports’ terminals are now comparable to any terminal in the world.
The minister however said the Yola airport was ready for usage.
"It is just a matter of time, and the Yola international airport will be officially commissioned. The terminals are completed, and it took focus and determination to accomplish this. But we are not only focusing on terminals, but also focusing on safety facilities and infrastructure, towers, runway and fencing," Oduah said.
She added that the fencing of the Sokoto International Airport was almost completed.
Oduah assured Nigerians that more good news were still on the way in the aviation sector.
"There is more to come. We are not only focusing on terminals. We are ensuring that Nigerian aviation is repositioned," she said.
Speaking also, the Managing Director, Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr George Uresi, said the Yola airport would take a million passengers per annum.
"Yola terminal is ready for commissioning, but operation will start in few days’ time, while the Yola perishable cargo terminal will be completed within the year," he said.
