A stray bullet from the gun of a policeman attached to the Rivers State Police Command has killed a scrap dealer, Mr. Chima Onyeogaziri, 30, at Eleme Junction in Port Harcourt.
Six days after the incident, members of the Mbano Brothers’ Youth Association and Scrap Dealers Association have called on the police authorities to fish out the killer cop and prosecute him.
The unfortunate victim was reported shot in the forehead by the stray bullet fired by a policeman identified as Mohammed Yahaya.
Trouble began when several policemen blocked the victim with a Hilux truck and demanded that they show the receipt of the scarp metal in their vehicle, which they reportedly did. But the policemen, Yahaya included, demanded that the scarp metal dealer follow them to the police station for further questioning.
But wanting to park the truck containing the scarp metal by the side of the road instead, the truck driver, Louis John, provoked the anger of Yahaya who began to shoot sporadically.
The driver of the truck came out of the ordeal, which unfortunately, could not be said of Onyeogaziri, who took a bullet to the forehead.
