It is the season's curtain raiser, ushering in a new league season that has been keenly anticipated, what better way to throw the first dice with the Community shield charity match between Manchester City and Arsenal football club.

For some reasons, the Community shield over the years have become less charitable with the two teams involved, seeing it as an avenue to earn bragging rights going into the new season.

Maybe the mere fact that there is a laurel to win afterwards has made oppositions to aim for a win as it could add to their bulging collection of trophies.

Played between the winners of the FA Cup and the League champions,it is indirectly a comity of winners from the past season's winners,so they are both champions in their own way.

Though some people try to downplay the Community Shield Game,no manager goes into it wanting to lose or placing a premium on the next weekend's match. They both go into the game with the sole aim of winning it,at least that is what football is all about.

*What both managers have been saying:

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been throwing verbal missiles at Manchester City all week long, particularly harping on the deal that has seen Frank Lampard join them.

It is not the first time that Wenger will be aiming a dig at City and their wealthy owners, whom he believes are ruining the game 'by not really abiding by the Financial Fair play(FFP).'

Lampard will play for City till January, having secured a loan move until the resumption of the Major League Soccer(MLS) where he will next be playing with New York FC(owned by City owners)

Apparently Wenger has got a grouse that City used their influence to get Lampard to the other side to play for them.

"If you look at a map, the shortest way from Chelsea to Manchester City is not to fly to New York first," Wenger said.

Nonetheless he is already thinking of how they could beat Man City and win the trophy

"We have an opportunity to show we have grown [since the FA Cup final]. Man City will be a good test," he added.

City coach Manuel Pellegrini fired back at Wenger, more like warning him to mind his own business.

"I think as managers we have enough problems with our own teams to be talking about other teams.

From the comments of both Wenger and Pellegrini, you would deduce that the fire has already been stoked even before they kick off at Wembley stadium.
