Six world powers and Iran, at the end of their four day meeting on Sunday in Brussels, agreed to suspended their expert-level talks on implementing a landmark nuclear deal until after Christmas.
Catherine Ashton, spokesperson for European Union foreign policy chief, said experts from the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain, Germany and Iran met in Geneva last week to settle the practical details of the accord.
She said that "there will be a break in technical talks over Christmas and resume before the New Year".
Ashton said the four day meeting obliged Tehran to suspend its most sensitive nuclear work.
The spokesperson said the experts are looking into when Iran would fulfil its obligations and hoping that the Western governments would ease some economic sanctions in return.
The officials were silent on how much progress, if any, had been made towards resolving the numerous technical aspects of the deal in the four days of talks.
The Geneva round was the second time nuclear experts and sanctions specialists from the seven countries and the European Union had met to figure out implementation.
