On Thursday, one Abdullahi Mohammed with no fixed address was sentenced to two weeks in prison for stealing a cartoon of Indomie noodles.
The sentence was pronounced by Chief Magistrate Hadiza Shagar of the FCT Chief Magistrates' Court in Karu, Abuja, after Mohammed pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of theft filed against him by the police. The Magistrate, however, gave him an option to pay N500 in fine.
The accused person had begged the court for leniency, claiming that he had a wife and two children to cater for.
“I was a trader until all my goods were seized by an environmental protection task force without any reason. I stole the Indomie not to sell but to take to my wife and kids.
“By God's grace, I have learnt my lesson in police custody, and I promise never to steal again,” he said.
