Sports 2015 Elections: Sports Festival Will Go Ahead - Gbenga Elegbeleye

Director General of the National Sports Commission(NSC) Gbenga Elegbeleye has denied that the National Sports Festival(NSF) was postponed because of political campaigns across the federation.

The sports festival has been postponed to a yet to be agreed date, after it became apparent that it can no longer be held this year.

Calabar is the host city for the games, but there are reports that they are not yet fully prepared, as they want to put all facilities in place.

However, Elegbeleye disputed that, adding that virtually all the states are not ready for the Sports Festival.

“I cannot say the festival was postponed mainly because the host state was not ready with the facilities. All, the states as well as the National Sports Commission were not ready.

"Most of the states had not registered their athletes by numbers while the National Sports Commission was also not ready following the number of programmes we were engaged in this year. The zonal qualifiers for the teams have also not been held either.”
