It is a confirmed fact that Nigerians don’t watch Nigerian football league games; or more appropriately put, Nigerians don’t like watching Nigerian football league games- either live or on the TV.

This hasn’t always been so. There were times where a match between 3SC and Kano pillars drew tens of thousands of viewers across the country but nowadays few Nigerians show interest in the final of the league cup competition.

Here are 5 Reasons Why:

The games are boring

This is the major reason Nigerians don't want to watch Kano Pillars vs Enyimba nowadays. The games are characterized by unattractive, uninspiring tactics and are so boring. Why would one sit in front of the TV for 2 hours to watch some police type of football? The reason we watch the EPL is because it is fast paced and interesting. The Nigerian league isn’t.

Horrible Pitches

If you are strong enough to watch jaded Nigerian League football games, the horrid pitches will make you to reconsider. Instead of being replete with green grasses, the fields are multicolored, with brown, the dominant color. The pitches of some Nigerian league clubs aren’t even suitable for running not to talk of playing football.

Poor Coverage

Due to sponsorship constraints or one issue or the other, most of these matches aren’t shown on TV. The ones that are shown however are covered poorly. Sometimes just one camera is used to cover the whole game, at a poor angle. You’d have to squint at the television set to see who’s actually with the ball. At other times there are no replays.

Apart from this, the games aren't discussed in the media like the European leagues.

Too much Predictability

When a football game is too predictable, one loses the urge to watch it. In the Nigerian league, the home team almost always wins. In the league, the worst home record is better than the best away record.

In addition The Nigerian league is bedeviled with match fixing claims. What’s the essence of watching a football game if just one team is playing to win? The other team, having been bribed, hand the 3 points to their opponents easily.

Public contempt

The average Nigerian see the NFF as a corrupt body and the League Management company LMC, organizers of the league as an unserious entity. The league is characterized by poor organization and embarrassing stories of referee intimidation, unpaid player salaries and so on. All these contribute to the lack of interest shown in it by Nigerians.

Feel free to cuss out/add more reasons.

We should not even call the Nigerian League a 'League'. No organization, no plan, no strategy...nothing!!
