The Honda brand is definitely one of the biggest players in the global auto industry. Known for their sporty designs and exquisite looks, the Honda range of sedans delivers class, excellence and superior performance than most competing brands out there. The 2012 Honda Civic is one of the coolest sedans from the stables of Honda and offers a good range of amazing features at a fair price. The 2012 Honda Civic basically comes in Sedan and standard coupe models, a Civic Hybrid Sedan, a Civic Si two-door coupe, a Civic Natural gas and an Eco-minded Civic HF.

The All-new 2012 Honda Civic consolidates on an iconic brand that has been built over the years and is highly revered in the auto industry for its excellent gas mileage and on-road performance. With that being said, we shall examine the 2012 Honda Civic under the following subheadings:

Styling

The 2012 Honda Civic comes clearly in an evolutionary, refreshed design with great sporty appeal and elegance. Unlike the rear appearance, the front and side appearance of this 2012 Civic oozes the usual appeal associated with the previous Honda Civic models, but then it ramps-up its appearance with some sleek, ultra modern finishing. The 2012 Honda Civic Si models still includes slight upgrades on some features seen on the outgoing models, some of which include Chrome-tipped exhaust, blacked-out egg crate grill and newer wheels. Some add-on features that accelerate the Si-model sporty appeal include: Sport seats, darker trim and leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Civic Hybrid models still maintains the same traditional look with the rest of the Civic family except for the fact that it features a slightly different front fascia and wheels. You can’t really tell a Hybrid model from afar, you might just want to get up close to examine its badge.

Interior

No doubt, the makeup of a vehicle’s interior plays a major role in buying decisions. The interior has been redesigned and re-engineered for improved interior space and comfort. Doors and seats have been well-sculpted and redesigned to optimize the cabin space. Honda has largely been concerned about practicality over style, and this has played a major role in the design of instrument panel of the 2012 Honda Civic, because it now features dual-level instrument readout and a curvy dashboard. One of the high points of the 2012 Honda Civic interior is the impressive subwoofer-equipped stereo system, with multi-media system that hooks up seamlessly with your iPod. The Navigation system isn’t too different from previous models, and the maps appear a decade old, which isn’t too impressive, going by current industry standards.

Performance

As earlier stated, the 2012 Honda Civic comes in four basic versions – the Sporty Si, Standard gasoline version, a hybrid and a natural gas version, all of which drive a bit differently. The gasoline version comes with good road-holding, lively acceleration and confident handling. Steering system performs excellently well, even in extremely tough driving conditions, especially when compared with the other versions in line. The Sporty SI isn’t as efficient as the gasoline versions in terms of performance, but then the sharper response of the gasoline version makes it a little noisier than the Sporty SI. The base engine of the 2015 Honda Civic comes with a 1.8-liter i-VTEC four Cylinder, 140 horsepower engine. On the other hand, the Hybrid model comes with a cool, amazing lithium-ion battery pack and is comfortable to drive around. The Hybrid version isn’t a full-fledged Hybrid because it does not rely entirely on electric power. However, there is a Hybrid option that allows users drive on electric-only mode provided the speed of the vehicle doesn’t exceed 36 MPH.

Safety

Safety is definitely the most fundamental requirement in every modern vehicle. The Insurance Institute for Highway safety (IIHS) and the U.S federal government gave the 2012 Honda Civic a five-star rating, having met their stringent safety requirements. The 2012 Honda Civic still retained the ACE body structure featured in older models, a feature that allows it absorb crash impacts through pathways and then distribute it away from occupants. Other important safety features include Front-seat side airbags, Electronic Stability Control, side-curtain airbag for front and rear seat occupants, anti-lock brakes and a whiplash-mitigating seat design, all of which combine effectively to create a comprehensive shield for its drivers and passengers.

Fuel and Economy

One of the unique selling features of the Honda Brand is the fuel efficiency of its engines. The 2012 Honda civic actually offers better gas per mileage than older brands, with its EPA ratings falling within 28 to 29 when driving in the city and 41 when driving on the Highway. Shoppers can get more mileage per gallon by going for the Hybrid model, because uses both fuel and electricity to power up its engines. The Hybrid model, equipped with a 15-kilowatt (20-hp) engine, comes with an EPA rating of 44mpg for both city and highway driving. The Econ button is almost a standard feature in most Honda Civics and enables it provide conservative transmission behavior, gentler throttle setting and accessory operation.

The 2012 Honda Civic may not be exquisitely furnished with top-end, luxury features, but then it gets the basic job done smoothly and efficiently. The safety features and fuel efficiency are perhaps one of its most impressive features, taking into consideration the driving conditions we have in this part of the world. The average price of the 2012 Honda Civic ranges between N3.8million to N5million, which largely puts it within the grasp of the middle class. The 2012 Honda Civic may not be the most recent in the Honda Civic line, but it still gives the Top-brands a run for their money.

Very reliable. It may not be too rugged physically, but for the fact that it's highly fuel efficient makes it reliable in the eyes of many Nigerians, esespecially when you the fuel situation in the country into perspective. ..
