Sports AFN Should Stop Wasting Money On Foreign Athletes- Yussuf Alli

Technical manager of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Yussuf Alli has said that home-grown athletes will continue to waste away once foreign based athletes are beckoned upon anytime a major athletics event is around the corner.

Alli further stated that the process has been a waste of resources, adding the best they have done was win bronze medal for Nigeria.

British Athletes, Mark Jelks, Tyron Akins and Alex Al-Ameen ran for Nigeria at the All African Games in Brazzaville but, Akin was the only one clinched a bronze at the Games.

While the local athletes were able to win 10 gold, nine silver and four bronze.

“The foreign athletes has not been helpful in any way. I think its a waste of resources. It has also denied the home-grown athletes the opportunity to be in the final team selection,

“We could only win a bronze medal from our foreign professionals. Al-Ameen was disqualified due to a false start. Al-Ameen’s reaction was 0.96, which exceeded the permissible 0.1, during the men’s 110m hurdles. We have not actually seen the benefit of getting the foreign athletes to run for Nigeria,” he said.
