In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, senator Shehu Sani reviewed the successes and failures of the President Buhari administration as he saw it.

While he was complimentary about the president's successes with Boko Haram, he could not hide his concerns over the failing fight against corruption at the very highest levels in Nigeria, especially with the presidents closest allies.

According to Shehu Sani, the problems started pretty early on in the administration with the failure of the president to appoint ministers in his first week of office. Not surprisingly he then went on to blame the 'cabal' for other challenges faced by the government. No one on the party has yet come out to put the blame squarely at the foot of the president.

On corruption, he expressed concern over the president's inability to act on a growing list of cases concerning his inner circle including the grass cutting scandal, the NSA scandal, the NNPC scandal and now the Maina-gate.

He concluded with a statement that paints the most vivid picture of the state of the fight against corruption.

“In the past, it was under the shade of an umbrella, but today, it is being swept under the carpet with a broom.”

With no real come back from the presidency on all the scandals other than pushing on with business as usual, these voices will only continue to grow and document the missteps of the government leading up to 2019 presidential elections.
