Sports EPL: Mourinho backs new Friday night fixtures which starts from 2016

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has backed the new proposed Friday night fixtures in the English Premier League which will commence from 2016-17 season.

The EPL wants to toe the paths of other European leagues who have been playing games on Friday nights.

The German Bundesliga, the Spanish La Liga and the French Ligue 1 are some of the leagues who are already practicing the Friday nights fixtures. the taking their cue from German, Spanish and French competitions.

Only 168 of the 380 matches are expected to be shown live in the games that will be played live on Fridays in the EPL, which was included in the rules for the bidding rights by broadcasters.games live.

"If we played on Friday night at 7:45, it makes a difference to who? Less spectators ... I don't think so," Mourinho said. "It'd be a full house, the same. And for television? It wouldn't make a difference. If it was the only match on TV, the (audience) share would be fantastic.

"Would it be good for Chelsea? Yes. Would it be good for English football? Yes."

Most games are played on Saturdays at 3 pm and still won't be shown live in Britain "to encourage attendances and participation at all levels of the sport at the traditional time," the league said in a statement.
