Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC is said to have arrest a popular blogger, Abubakar Sidiq Usman for publishing a story that revealed irregularities in the commission.

Sources of Twitter, claimed that the popular blogger, @Abusidiq was arrested by the Magu-led EFCC for a story titled: “EFCC Boss, Magu Commences Total War With Core EFCC Staff”, published August 2, 2016 on www.abusidiq.com.

The story which was written by one, Adenike Lucas alleged that “Regular members of staff at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC are complaining that they are being bullied by the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu”.

The story quoted a an unknown source as saying “Magu has been panicking because his confirmation had been deferred and is beginning to suspect any and every one in the commission for his problem.”

No official statement from the EFCC at the time of filing this report....

A lesson for us here: to get our sources right. Abusidiq's case is not new, and won't be the last. We should desist from lazy blogging, and journalism as the case may be. The story may be true but that's not a very good way to write it. True, you should not reveal your 'sources' in journalism, but there are no ''unknown sources" anywhere. They are known.

Arrest of Bloggers and journalists is an affront on civic human right, and freedom of the press - and should not be tolerated in any sane society. The EFCC should check its sytem, please.

And yes, #FreeAbusidiq
