Former member of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) Austel Elumelu has charged the football body to hire a coach has a developmental programmes lined up for the game in the country.
Elumelu pointed to the fact that Nigerian football can only be developed from the grassroots level.
He further argued that the idea of hiring a coach just for winning titles should be discarded, but rather focus on someone who would bring about changes from the grassroots.
He also called on the NFF to resolve the contractual situation affecting the position of Stephen Keshi as coach of the Super Eagles.
" Nigeria should employ coaches not based on trophies but Youth development programmes that will ensure there’s a transition from the youth teams up the rung.”
"We must also define what we want from coaches, there are youth coaches who can build a strong junior team as their targets ahead of any competition. These players can become the group to form the nucleus of the Senior National team,” Elumelu told footballlive.
