During his visit to Paris, France, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan made the statement during an interview with France 24 television that the Federal Government of Nigeria would indeed support the formation of an African Stand-by Force that would contain and resolve crisis situations in the continent.

This confirmation was made shortly after the two day summit on peace and security in Africa that had been hosted by the French President, Francois Hollande of France and is assured that the stand-by force was a main resolution accomplished during the event.

President Jonathan stated that possessing a stand-by force for Africa by Africa would ensure the dedicated end to conflicts in the continent, in addition to enabling and empowering Africans to handle their conflicts without the intervention of foreign aid in the form of the United Nations troop deployment.
