The rate of kidnapping in Nigeria has gone a tad up, probably due to the current economic hardship.

Despite the implementation of capital punishments for kidnapping in many states kidnappers refuse to desist from this heinous act. The crime attracts life sentences in some cases and jail terms between 10 to 30 years for convicted kidnappers who didn’t kill their victims.

The latest victim was a House of Representatives member, Garba Umar Durbunde (APC, Kano), who was abducted on Tuesday at Jere, along Kaduna -Abuja road. He was recently released upon the payment of N10 million.

Here are the states with the highest rate of kidnapping according to a report from DailyTrust.

  1. Zamfara State
  2. Rivers state
  3. Lagos state
  4. Jigawa state
  5. Delta state
  6. Kogi state
  7. Bayelsa state
  8. Kaduna state
