Sports Manchester United labour to a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace

Manchester United endured difficult spells at Old Trafford before they could secure a hard fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

On Friday, coach Louis Van Gaal said that his team needs at least three years to really hot their potentials, and it showed in the game how they struggled.

United tried to break down a resolute Palace, all to no avail,as Neil Warnock's team held on brilliantly and bravely.

Even the best chance of scoring a goal fell to Palace through Fraizer Campbell who was played through on goal, but the former Manchester United player, lobbed the ball way high into Stretford end.

Not until Juan Mata came into the game did their United finally find a breakthrough.

The Spaniard shot United into the lead, rifling in a wonderful left-footed shot that got a lucky deflection past Juilan Speroni.

Mata came close again, but his effort bounced off the post and Robin Van Persie couldn't finish off the rebound.

It was not the greatest performance from Manchester United, but they would be delighted getting all the three points at stake.
