Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has drawn level with Batistuta as the all-time highest goal scorer for Argentina.

The forward scored against Venezuela in Argentina's 4-1 victory, to qualify for the semis of the Copa America Centenario.

Speaking about the feat, Messi said: “I tied it, still haven’t broken it. But I’m happy to be next to Bati, with all that means.”

Batistuta scored 54 times for Argentina during his international career, that spanned between 1991 and 2002.

Messi has now drawn level on 54. Team-mates Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain are his closest rivals, on 33 and 26 goals respectively.
