Nigeria's Jonathan Akinyemi, after an impressive start has crashed out of the Rio 2016 Olympics Slalom Canoeing event.
Akinyemi on Wednesday failed to make a mark at the event after placing 20th in a field of 21.
The UK-based 27-year-old Nigerian could only record a time of 104.59 in his second run in the men’s kayak singles event. His time was just a few seconds better than the 107.49 he recorded in his first run.
However, it was not just enough as the best 15 in the event advanced to the semi-finals.
Italy’s Giovanni De Gennar won the heat with a time of 86.85, recorded in his first run.
Akinyemi was the only African in the competition.
