President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday ordered all ministries, departments and agencies involved in database capturing of Nigerians to immediately commence the process of switching over to the database of the National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC).

Jonathan, who launched the e-ID card yesterday at the presidential villa, said the regime of duplication of biometric data bases now has to give way to harmonisation and unification with the e-ID scheme, which shall be the primary data base.

With this directive, national e-ID card will soon replace many cards currently in-use such as Driver’s licence, voter’s cards, Automated Teller Machines (ATM) cards, pension, welfare schemes as well as payment cards, Daily Trust gathered.
