Some “pained” Nigerian artistes have colluded to boycott The Headies and Rhythm Unplugged this year in a show of protest against the ban placed on their music by radio and TV stations in Nigeria.

As the story goes, the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) is currently at loggerheads with the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) and the Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (IBAN).

COSON had attempted to ask that royalties be paid its members by radio and TV stations nationwide, but BON and IBAN had reacted by banning airplay of songs of COSON members.

In retaliation, some artistes are planning to make themselves conspicuously absent at two of Nigeria’s biggest entertainment shows – “The Headies” and “Rhythm Unplugged”, both slated to hold this month, December.
