Last weekend's elections that saw Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu emerge as the new Governor-elect of Ondo state can be said to be a gainful victory for some persons. Some of which are:

Governor-Elect Rotimi Akeredolu:
The Ondo State governor-elect is the major gainer in the governorship election. The APC candidate, who was a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) overcame several odds within and outside his party on his road to the Alagbaka Government House. The lawyer turned politician, who lost the governorship election on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2012 election to Mimiko, has joined the league of politicians who got elected as governor on second attempt.

President Buhari: President Muhammadu Buhari played a crucial role in Akeredolu’s victory. He stood solidly behind the candidate during the campaign period, especially when some party’s leaders turned against him.

The president was in Akure penultimate Saturday to drum support for Akeredolu and urged the electorate to vote for the APC candidate. Akeredolu’s victory means expansion of frontiers for Buhari as the race for the 2019 presidency begins.

Mr Kayode Fayemi: The Minister of Solid Minerals Development played crucial role during the Ondo State governorship election. Despite coming from neighbouring Ekiti State, Fayemi was the anchor man of the Presidency in the governorship poll.

The former Ekiti State governor was on ground during the campaigns and equally stood solidly behind Akeredolu during the election. Fayemi’s rating in the APC will surely soar with Akeredolus’s victory.

Odigie-Oyegun: The APC national chairman, stood his ground on Akeredolu’s candidature despite allegations of manipulating the September 3, primaries, which saw the emergence of the former NBA president.
