Governor Rauf Aregbesola has threatened that students wearing choir robes to school would be expelled, Vanguard reports.

Some students of Baptist High School, Adeeke, Iwo on Tuesday had caused a stir when they appeared in school garbed in choir robes and other church garments.

Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court had on June 3 given a verdict that Muslim students should be allowed to wear hijab in all public schools in the state because it was part of their fundamental rights.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN had held an emergency meeting following the judgment and threatened that it would direct Christian pupils to start wearing choir robes and other religious garments to schools should the state government implement the judgment.

However, Governor Aregbesola said students who wore unauthorised cloths to any public schools in the State would be expelled henceforth.

According to him, it was wrong and criminal for a section or group of people to have directed some innocent students to wear choir robes to schools against court’s judgment.

He urged whoever was not satisfied with the judgment to ventilate the grievance through legitimate means rather than trying to cause crises by resorting to self help.

"Government is not interested in any religion as being speculated. My goal is to improve education standard in the state," he said.
