A four-man team of robbers on Monday gunned down a police inspector while he was withdrawing money from an ATM in Idiumu, Lagos state.

The thieves were however chased down by a Rapid Response Squad and two of their members were shot dead as well.

According to Vanguard, the robbers lied in wait by the side of a bank around 11 am and forcefully collected huge sums of money from a bank customer. They shot him and then zoomed off in two motorbikes.

While leaving, reports say they sighted the Inspector, who was withdrawing money from an ATM at Okunola Street and shot him in the head. He died before he could be transported to the hospital, a witness said.

Then RRS operatives on patrol gave a hot chase. They shot a thief riding one motorcycle. As the bike tumbled to the ground, his partner was also shot.

The second rider lost balance as he almost ran into his fallen partner’s motorcycle, with his passenger falling off the bike. He however escaped.

Two members of the gang, according to eyewitnesses, died on the spot while the third suspect was arrested.
