Metro Tricycle Rider Lands in Jail for Stealing Air Conditioner in Church

A 32-year-old tricycle operator has been sentenced to jail by an Abuja Upper Area Court for allegedly stealing an air conditioner from the Redeemed Christian Church in Abuja.

The accused, identified as Buhari Abdulkarim, was said to have criminally trespassed into the church premises at Flower Garden Estate, Lokogoma area of Abuja on August 11 at about 4 p.m. and made away with the church’s air conditioner.

The prosecutor said the convict was nabbed following an alarm raised by one of the worshippers, who sighted the accused with the stolen church property.

He said the accused was nabbed and dispossessed of the item.

When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded guilty to the two count-charge of criminal trespass and theft.

The prosecuting counsel urged the court to try the convict summarily.

Justice Umar Yusuf Kagarko sentenced the convict to seven weeks imprisonment with an option of N12,000.

The judge also ordered that the accused be given seven lashes of the cane.
