The senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, has described the agitation that democracy was too expensive as unwarranted, saying part-time legislative system will not work in Nigeria, given the diversity of its people.
Senator Buhari said this while on a live radio and television network programme of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC “Guest of the Month” at Ile-Awiye, Oke-Baale, Osogbo, the state capital.
Recall that former military president Ibrahim Babangida, and prominent Nigerians had recently advocated for part-time legislature in Nigeria.
Expatiating on his point, he told Dailytrust after the programme described the legislature as a major component of democracy was a serious business with huge task.
He maintained that legislative work must be full time for the democratic system to attain its full-fledged responsibility and ensure checks and balances among the three arms of government.
