The Senate On Thursday said interest from majority of senators to ask questions was the reason behind postponement of the confirmation hearing of acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Magu was already at the National Assembly when the Senate announced its decision to reschedule the hearing after 6 months delay.

Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah told newsmen that the screening has been rescheduled for next Thursday, December 15.

He said “We have officially written to Magu to inform him of the new date. The postponement was because majority of senators have indicated interest to ask him (Magu) questions but today (yesterday) the attendance was poor".

On the allegation that Magu’s confirmation is being delayed because some Senators are being investigated by the Commission he said, “nothing like that, what we are doing is in the overall interest of the country”.
