These admonition came from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Philip at the 2017 World Speech Day held on Wednesday.

The programme was organized by the Lagos State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN.

Represented by the Head of Operations of LASIEC, Mrs Eniola Adesina, Justice Philip advised the youths to avoid monetary gratification in perpetrating violence.

“I challenge the youths of Nigeria to re-orientate themselves with regards to election violence, being the most vulnerable group that readily comes to the minds of those who are in the habit of seeing elections as a do or die affair.

“Ask yourselves thee questions: if Mr. A or party A induces you with money and arms you with weapons , do they mean well for you? Considering the fact that you have been paid for services rendered, do ypu have any moral justification to demand for good governance? Why must you maim and kill people and destroy properties if indeed they ‘politicians’ want to develop the human and material resources of the state? Will there children join you in this violence?

“If your answer to the above posers is No, then its time and stand up for your rights.”

The programme also featured a poetic presentation by Hassan Taiwo, one of the conveners of the event.
