Bagega area in Zamfara state which suffered one of the world's worst recorded incidents of lead poisoned is now habitable and doctors from Doctors Without Borders can commence treatment of contaminated children. Some children are blind, others are paralyzed and some have learning disabilities.
The poisoning arose from artisanal mining from a gold rush in 2010 but nothing was done until february this year when a remediation was carried out. The remediation was concluded two weeks ago.
Over a thousand tested children were found to be contaminated and needed therapy.
