Kwara- An Omu-Aran Area Court in Kwara on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old farmer, Ibrahim Aliu, to six years in prison after pleading guilty to trespassing, housebreaking into a shop and stealing jeweleries worth N6,000.

He received one year, two years and three years sentence on the first, second and third counts respectively.

The sentences are, however, to run concurrently.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Adebola Adeola, said Aliu had on Nov. 23 broken into the shop of a trader simply identified as Salahudeen for the second time and stolen neck-lace, wrist chains and bangles.

He said the convict was arrested by the vigilante group in the area and that some of the items recovered from the convict was a neck-lace he wore when he was arrested.

The convict also pleaded with the court to forgive him, saying “it is the work of the devil.”

The judge, Abolade Banigbe noted that the farmer’s attitude constituted a nuisance to the society, said his conviction would serve as a deterrent to others.

But he gave the convict a N6,000 fine, saying “I am only lenient with you because you did not waste the time of the court. You should, therefore, change your attitude."
