Three teams from the Savannah conference have made the semifinals of the Nigerian Basketball League playoffs.

Gombe Bulls became the latest team from that region to join defending champions Kano Pillars and Mark Mentors in qualifying for the last four.

Surprisingly, only one team from the Atlantic conference made the semifinal of this year's playoffs competition.

Dodan Warriors of Lagos will be trading tackles with the three teams from the Savannah for the top prize of the Basketball League.

Kano Pillars are primed to still retain their title, getting off to a good start with three consecutive wins at the playoffs.

Pillars beat Union Bank of Lagos 88-71, also Plateau Peaks of Jos 94-53,and played their toughest match against Dodan Warriors whom they defeated 84-79.

Coach of Pillars,Sanni Ahmed expressed his optimism that they will still retain the championship title.

“We played well in the group matches and handled every team that came our way perfectly well," he said.

“We have every reason to believe that this year’s championship’s trophy is going back with us to Kano at the end of the competition,” Ahmed said.
