The Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has frozen the personal bank account of ex First Lady Patience Jonathan.

The account is named 'Patience Ibifaka Jonathan,' is maintained by Skye Bank, and contains $5m.

Dame Patience had been in an altercation with the EFCC over some $15m (some reports say $31m) bank account owned by four firms which was frozen by the agency as parts of a fraud investigation. Mrs. Jonathan had written to the EFCC, saying the money is hers, and want the ban placed on it removed.

According to an EFCC operative, "since she claimed that the monies in the company accounts and the one in her personal name all emanated from the same source.

“We are tracing other accounts belonging to Patience. It will interest you to know that despite all the letters she has written, she has never stated where she got the money from. She claimed to be a housewife and yet she has $20m.”
